Phormictopus sp. 'Full Green' (Emerald Beauty Bird Eater Tarantula)

Perhaps the most sought after of the Phormictopus color forms, this species of bird eater is a stunner. Grab this new world tarantula for sale if you want a giant with a genuinely dramatic color transformation.

Why do hobbyists keep Phormictopus sp. 'Full Green'?

  • Stunning Coloration: A deep emerald green adult coloration that's arguably the most sought after of all the Phormictopus color forms.
  • Drastic Color Change: Starts green as a sling, shifts to purple and blue as a juvenile, then settles into a deep emerald green as an adult.
  • Large Size: A true giant bird eater with serious presence at maturity.
  • Rare in the Hobby: Slings of this particular color form are genuinely hard to find.

How should Phormictopus sp. 'Full Green' be kept?

  • Adult Size: Reaches about 8 inches at full leg span.
  • Enclosure: Choose an enclosure at least twice the leg span in width, depth, and height, with a roomy hide included.
  • Temperature: Keep between 65 to 75 degrees F.
  • Humidity: Keep the substrate damp but not saturated, resembling the texture and color of coffee grounds. Organic coconut fiber works well since it resists mold and holds humidity steadily.
  • Water: A shallow textured water dish works well, something they can grip when climbing out.
  • Diet: Crickets, roaches, or mealworms sized to about a quarter of the leg span, matching the width of the carapace (head). Feed at least once a week.
  • Temperament: Skittish and fast, more likely to bolt than stand its ground.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Color Journey: Green as a sling, purple and blue as a juvenile, and a deep emerald green as an adult, a genuinely dramatic transformation across its life.
  • Captive Bred: All Tarantulas are 100% captive bred.
