Aphonopelma mooreae (Mexican Jade Fuego Tarantula)

The Mexican Jade Fuego is one of the most beautiful beginner tarantulas in the hobby, and a true standout for anyone looking to grab this New World Tarantula for sale before it sells out again. Females feature a glowing, sparkly blue and green coloration with an orange abdomen, while mature males turn bright emerald green. Both sexes show stunning color once they hit around 1.5". This is a slow-growing, mid-sized terrestrial species with the famously docile Aphonopelma temperament and a color palette that looks like Picasso painted it himself.

Why do hobbyists keep Aphonopelma mooreae?

  • Stunning Blue and Green Coloration: females show a sparkly, glittery blue and green combo with an orange abdomen that stands out in any collection
  • Emerald Green Males: mature males develop bright emerald green coloration once they hit adulthood
  • Beginner-Friendly Temperament: classic Aphonopelma docility, calm and easygoing for a New World terrestrial
  • Hardy and Forgiving: tough species that handles a range of conditions well
  • Slow Grower Worth the Wait: takes time to reach maturity but rewards patience with serious color
  • Mid-Sized Terrestrial: manageable adult size that fits standard terrestrial setups
  • "Holy Grail Species": This has become one of the most expensive and rare tarantulas in the world due to very short supply.

How should Aphonopelma mooreae be kept?

  • Adult Size: mid-sized terrestrial reaching around 4-5" leg span at maturity
  • Enclosure: terrestrial setup with low hide and leaf litter, dry substrate with a moisture gradient, good ventilation to keep air moving through the enclosure
  • Temperature: 65-75°F with stable conditions, cooler end preferred for this genus
  • Humidity: low to moderate, allow substrate to dry between mistings rather than keeping it consistently damp
  • Water dish at base: shallow water dish at the bottom of the enclosure, refreshed regularly
  • Diet: prey about the size of the carapace (head), crickets and roaches readily accepted

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Slow Growth Rate: this species takes time to reach maturity, plan accordingly when buying spiderlings
  • Color Develops With Size: both males and females need to reach around 1.5" before full coloration shows up
  • Limited Availability: not commonly available in U.S. collections and do not last long. Recently these have become even more expensive to obtain!
